2006/2007 Season

A Patriot Act: The Trial of George W. Bush

A world premiere written and directed by Todd Blakesley

Opened November 7 (Previews Nov 2-6) through November 27, 2006.

In this interactive theatrical event our current President, George Walker Bush, is charged with dereliction of duty, war crimes, and treason and tried by a military court as prescribed by his own post-9/11 laws put in place for “enemy combatants.” The show was conceived, written and directed by legendary San Diego total-immersion theater impresario, Todd Blakesley (FritzCon 96, Cigars and Stripes, The Exchange, Center Earth Trialz, many others.). A Patriot Act - The Trial of George W. Bush is a companion piece to Sledgehammer’s last production, Chiang Kai Chek in that it continues our exploration and condemnation of the moral, ethical and legal issues of power, but does so in more accessible, audience interactive style.

Beckett3 (Beckett Cubed)

A world premiere conceived by Scott Feldsher and Tim Root in collaboration with Becky Guttin

Opened May 9 (Previewed May 3-8) through June 3, 2007.

This site-specific theatrical installation, in which spectators wandered through an aural and visual search for Samuel Beckett. “Beckett’s words were not used in our piece – at first we made this choice out of necessity because his Estate will not let us use his work out of context. However, as we began to develop our ideas, it became clear this “restriction” was really at the heart of Beckett’s world, which is about the elusiveness of identity, absence and the space between utterances."
